A modern take on our traditional African Binga baskets, these hand woven beauties have hit our shelves in a whitewash, semi gloss finish. Each basket showcasing its own unique weaving patterns enhanced with a rustic yet modern white finish.
Using weaving techniques passed through generations, the women of Tonga create the subtle intricately patterned baskets from dried ilala palm leaves. Traditionally these were used for winnowing grains but are now also planted by the women for the purpose of basket making. Each individual design is one of a kind, equally celebrated & acts as a brand stamp of the individual artisan and their craft.
It takes approximately two weeks to complete a basket of around 35cm diameter in its natural form.
Both stylish and functional these traditional baskets can be used in a variety of ways. We love to hang them in groups of varying sizes & styles hung at staggered heights to create a custom wall feature. They also make a gorgeous fruit basket, a piece for tabletop styling or placed behind decor to add further depth, dimension & height. Mix with natural varieties or stay consistent with colour & group in varying sizes.
Dimensions:
Small: 29-35cm diameter
Med: 38-45cm diameter
Lge: 49-55cm diameter
XL: 67-72cm diameter
As with all products of this nature, measurements and subtle patterns will vary. If you have any specific requirements or preferences please leave them in the notes at checkout.
Hanging tip:
To hang simply feed some wire through the weaved base of the basket and hang from your wall hook. Alternatively for a more secure flat mount, place a small nail or pin between the weaves of the basket base & push directly into the wall. This will achieve a nice flush finish against the centre.
